How to make a German Chocolate Cake look good?
Q : Because whenever I make it, it looks really lumpy and ugly. How to make it prettier?
A : German Chocolate cake is a lumpy, ugly cake :) however, I make mine pretty by doingthe following:
Bake my cake in 2 9" pans, let them cool, then freeze them over night tightly wrapped in plastic wrap
The next day, I put one frozen round on my serving platter, and pipe a border of chocolate icing around the outside edge of the cake- this creates a dam to hold all the gooey goodness in. Then I fill the cake with half of my coconut pecan frosting and top it with the second frozen layer.
I cover the sides in chocolate frosting, smoothing as best I can.
Then I pipe huge stars all around the top of the cake- it creates a dam and looks pretty! Then I fill the dam with my remaining coconut pecan icing, and pipe another big star right in the center of the cake. It turns out beautiful every time.
